Local Driving Associate

Job Summary of Local Driving Associate:

Transfer and distribute freight between Service Centers and customers while supporting sales initiatives.

Reponsibilities of Local Driving Associate:

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform the handling of freight by using the correct motorized and manual equipment, like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Secure freight inside trailers using the necessary tools and supplies, such as pallets, straps, and rope. Fix damaged freight if needed. Ensure the verification and completion of required documentation and reports. Adhere to hazardous material regulations and procedures
• Secure payment in the form of cash or checks for freight costs and uphold all mandatory documentation
• Comply with dispatch guidelines and maintain regular communication with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment problems. Engage with clients to determine their pickup or delivery preferences and actively seek new business opportunities. Display exceptional customer service towards both internal and external customers
• There may be a need to perform tire chaining on vehicles as a part of maintenance or safety measures
• Expected to execute job functions of a road driver or a dock employee when operationally essential. Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Complete any other required tasks as directed

Qualification of Local Driving Associate:

• A must-have credential is a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) along with endorsements for double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank driving.
• A CDL restriction pertaining to automatic transmission permits drivers to operate only vehicles that have automatic transmission capabilities.
• It is necessary to have one year of experience within the last three years or to have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. Furthermore, candidates must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on the company's hiring standards
• In these states, LCV drivers must adhere to the minimum standards for qualification and certification when operating Long Combination Vehicles
• Skill in numeracy and the capability to undertake fundamental mathematical calculations
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Demonstrates the ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of a truck. Displays proficiency in following instructions thoroughly and successfully completing necessary training
• Competence in performing tasks independently and collaboratively

Working Conditions of Local Driving Associate:

• Drive throughout shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather Exposure to noise and vibration Exposure to dust and diesel fumes Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations Hours may vary due to operational need
• It is necessary to obtain the Hazardous Materials endorsement within 120 days of accepting the offer.
• An employee cannot drive a commercial motor vehicle unless they have this endorsement.
