City Package Driver

Job Summary of City Package Driver:

Deliver freight to clients from Service Centers and contribute to sales support.

Reponsibilities of City Package Driver:

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Carry out freight handling tasks by operating suitable motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Ensure that freight is properly secured inside trailers using tools like pallets, straps, and rope. Repair or salvage damaged freight as required. Verify the accuracy of documentation and reports. Adhere to guidelines for handling hazardous materials
• Receive cash or check payments intended for freight expenses and ensure all essential documentation is properly organized
• Abide by dispatch instructions and stay in touch with dispatch when necessary, which may involve discussing delays, arrivals, and equipment complications. Engage with customers to establish their pick-up or delivery preferences and explore opportunities for additional business. Display effective customer service to cater to both internal and external clientele
• It could be necessary to chain the tires of a vehicle together for specific purposes
• Required to carry out the job responsibilities of either a road driver or a dock worker when operationally required. Abide by all applicable laws and regulations, as well as company procedures. Undertake any other necessary duties as requested

Qualification of City Package Driver:

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements.
• Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
• Must possess one (1) year experience within most recent three (3) years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• LCV Drivers in these states must meet the Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Working Conditions of City Package Driver:

• Drive throughout shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather Exposure to noise and vibration Exposure to dust and diesel fumes Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations Hours may vary due to operational need
• Obtaining the Hazardous Materials endorsement is required within 120 days after accepting the offer.
• This endorsement is required for an employee to drive a commercial motor vehicle.
