City Route Operator

Job Summary of City Route Operator:

Transport cargo between Service Centers and clients while assisting with sales efforts.

Reponsibilities of City Route Operator:

• Operate a combination of tractor-trailer units, incorporating double trailers and, when necessary, triple trailers or straight trucks. Conduct regular safety checks and inspections on the equipment before each day's operation. Attach and detach trailers and converter dollies from a tractor and/or trailer as required
• Operate various motorized and manual equipment for handling freight, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Safely load and unload freight into trailers utilizing tools like pallets, straps, and ropes. Rectify any damaged freight as needed. Validate and finalize essential paperwork and records. Adhere to protocols for managing hazardous materials
• Collect payment in the form of cash or checks for shipping fees as needed and keep all necessary paperwork in order
• Adhere to dispatch directives and engage with dispatch as needed, such as addressing delays, arrivals, and equipment issues. Maintain correspondence with customers to ascertain their pickup or drop-off requirements and seek to expand business opportunities. Exhibit proficiency in both internal and external customer support
• The act of connecting tires to vehicles in a linked manner may be necessary
• May need to carry out the responsibilities of a road driver or a dock worker as needed for operational purposes. Adhere to relevant laws and guidelines, in addition to company protocols. Fulfill any additional tasks as needed

Qualification of City Route Operator:

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements.
• Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
• Must possess one (1) year experience within most recent three (3) years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• LCV Drivers in these states must meet the Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Working Conditions of City Route Operator:

• Operate vehicles during the duration of the work period across various road conditions and in diverse weather conditions.Experience exposure to loud sounds and tremors while on duty.
• Encounter dust particles and diesel exhaust emissions in the environment.
• Come into contact with dangerous substances that are transported and handled in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Work hours can fluctuate based on operational requirements
• The Hazardous Materials endorsement needs to be acquired within 4 months of accepting the offer.
• An employee must have this endorsement to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
