Regional Road Driver

Job Summary of Regional Road Driver:

A Regional Road Driver main duty is to transport trailers between Service Centers and turn-point spots using tractor-trailers. The Regional Road Driver's primary responsibility is to move trailers over extended distances, often between distribution centers, warehouses, or terminals, ensuring punctual and secure delivery. This position entails operating commercial vehicles like trucks, tractor-trailers, or delivery vans to different locations.

Responsibilities of Regional Road Driver:

• Drive a combination of tractor and trailer, which may include doubles or triples when necessary.
• Conduct routine pre-ride checks on machinery each day. Connect/disconnect trailers and converter dollies from a tractor and/or trailer. Confirm and fill out necessary paperwork and reports.
• Keep precise daily records.
• Adhere to rules and protocols concerning dangerous substances.
• Adhere to dispatch directives and keep in touch with dispatch personnel for necessary communication such as reporting delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• May have to engage in the process of attaching vehicle tire chains. May need to undertake the responsibilities of either a municipal driver or a warehouse staff member as operationally required.
• Handle the loading and unloading of cargo as needed.
• Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations, in addition to following company policies and protocols.
• Execute additional tasks as needed.

Qualification of Regional Road Driver:

• A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, along with endorsements for double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tanks
• Class A commercial driver's license restriction for automatic transmission permitted.
• One year of recent experience is required, or completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• A satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is required as per the hiring criteria.
• Can connect and disconnect sets of trailers needing approximately 100 pounds of force to lift, multiple times daily or as necessary.
• Capacity to remain seated for long durations, flex, rotate, crouch, ascend and descend from the vehicle.
• Demonstrating the capacity to adhere to directions and finish mandatory training sessions.
• Capability to function autonomously or collaboratively within a group setting.
• Shows drive and determination.

Working Conditions of Regional Road Driver:

• Drive long distances day and night on all types of roads and in all types of weather.
• Exposure to noise and vibration
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations.
• Hours may vary due to operational need.
• Overnight stays may be required for some schedules.
