Commercial Road Driver

Job Summary of Commercial Road Driver:

A Commercial Road Driver principal duty involves transporting trailers between Service Centers and specific turn-point destinations via tractor-trailer combinations. The primary responsibility of a Commercial Road Driver is to carry goods over extended distances, usually between distribution centers, warehouses, or terminals, while ensuring timely and secure delivery. This job requires operating commercial vehicles like trucks, tractor-trailers, or delivery vans to different locations.

Responsibilities of Commercial Road Driver:

• Drive a tractor paired with a trailer, with the option of incorporating multiple trailers in the configuration.
• Undertake daily pre-journey and safety assessments on equipment. Fasten/release trailers and converter dollies from a tractor and/or trailer. Authenticate and conclude mandatory documentation and reports.
• Sustain the integrity of daily log entries.
• Observe and comply with procedures related to hazardous substances.
• Observe dispatch directions and stay in constant communication with dispatch representatives to update them on delays, arrivals, or equipment complications.
• Could be expected to conduct the task of chaining tires on automobiles. Could be required to undertake the duties of either a municipal operator or a dock laborer when operationally warranted.
• Execute the movement of goods onto and from transportation vehicles as required.
• Abide by all relevant laws and regulations, as well as adhere to company policies and protocols.
• Undertake supplementary duties as required.

Qualification of Commercial Road Driver:

• Candidates must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) that includes endorsements for double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tanks
• Automatic transmission CDL limitation approved.
• Experience within the past year or completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course is a prerequisite.
• Compliance with the hiring standards necessitates a suitable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Proficient at linking and unlinking sets of trailers that require an average lift force of roughly 100 pounds, repeated multiple times throughout the day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Displaying proficiency in adhering to instructions and fulfilling mandatory training requirements.
• Skill in operating independently or as part of a team.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm and eagerness.

Working Conditions of Commercial Road Driver:

• Drive long distances day and night on all types of roads and in all types of weather.
• Exposure to noise and vibration
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations.
• Hours may vary due to operational need.
• Overnight stays may be required for some schedules.
