City Freight Operator

Job Summary of City Freight Operator:

Perform transportation of goods from Service Centers to customers and assist in the sales process.

Reponsibilities lof City Freight Operator:

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Execute freight handling duties utilizing proper motorized and manual machinery, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Secure freight within trailers using appropriate tools such as pallets, straps, and rope. Rectify any damaged freight when the situation demands. Confirm the accuracy and completion of mandatory documentation and reports. Follow hazardous material regulations and procedures
• Acquire cash or check payments for freight charges when needed and uphold the necessary records
• Adhere to dispatch protocols and keep in touch with dispatch as needed, such as addressing delays, arrivals, and equipment issues. Collaborate with customers to understand their pickup and delivery requirements, as well as to generate additional business opportunities. Demonstrate strong customer service skills towards both internal and external parties
• Connecting the tires of a vehicle in a chain-like fashion might be required in certain situations
• Might be needed to perform the duties of a road driver or dock staff when operationally warranted. Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations, as well as company protocols and procedures. Execute any other mandated tasks as necessary

Qualification of City Freight Operator:

• The eligibility criteria involve holding a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank shipments.
• The allowance of an automatic transmission restriction on a CDL empowers drivers to operate vehicles that utilize automatic transmission exclusively.
• Successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course or one year of experience within the most recent three years is required. Additionally, candidates must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as per the hiring guidelines
• Individuals driving LCVs in these states are obligated to meet the outlined criteria for LCV Qualification and Certification
• Adequate numerical aptitude to conduct basic mathematical tasks, with or without the assistance of a calculator
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Adept at sitting for prolonged periods, bending, twisting, squatting, and navigating entry and exit of a truck. Capable of following instructions effectively and completing mandatory training
• Proficiency in working alone or as part of a team

Working Conditions of City Freight Operator:

• Drive throughout shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather Exposure to noise and vibration Exposure to dust and diesel fumes Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations Hours may vary due to operational need
• The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
• An employee will not be allowed to drive a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement.
